SHABBAT
WORSHIP
The foundation of Jewish life, of course, is worship. Temple Israel’s religious services are
uplifting and full of congregational singing and modern in outlook. We are a congregation, that loves to
sing, and you will soon find yourself joining in as you recognize and learn traditional and new melodies. Services
are held every Friday.
The first Friday of the month our service begins earlier at 6:30 PM to better
accommodate family worship. Though children are always welcome and encouraged to attend all services, Family
Shabbat services are particularly geared to family needs. Instead of a sermon
Cantor Hickman gathers the children about her for a story and a parade
through the Sanctuary with the Torah scrolls. Please join us after this service (approximately 7:00 PM) for a potluck
supper. The cost is $2.00 per person for the main entree and bring a side dish or a dessert to share. All other Friday
evening Shabbat Services begin at 7:30 PM.
Friday Night Live! A contemporary style service of
music, dance and reflections, Friday Night Live is a warm and inviting way to spend Shabbat. The service includes the
Temple's Band and Choir and is held the third Friday of every month at 7:30 PM. The concept is simple - our prayers
are music and dance. The music is a patchwork quilt of our new and old melodies. As Reb Nachman of Breslov used
to say "Get into the habit of singing a tune. It will give you new life and fill you with joy."
Saturday
Shabbat morning services are dedicated to prayer and Torah study and we often have the pleasure of celebrating a Bar or Bat
Mitzvah. Please check the monthly bulletin for Saturday service dates.
